Appearing in Google Maps, Street View

Google Maps Street View launched in the Boston area last week bringing with it news reports on Google invading your privacy and showing off pictures of cats in windows and women inadvertently showing off their thongs. Calm down you all and worry less about Google driving my every year or so and consider that you are seen by surveillance cameras over 200 times a day and what they see.

I checked out views of my house (the bridge work next door appears in street view, but not the map or satellite views. The office got a beauty shot right on a sunny summer evening when most of us had already left or were leaving. Scrolling up the street there’s a guy walking toward Watertown Square with a laptop bag, black pants and a blue shirt. Could that be me walking to the bus after working a little late one summer afternoon? Could be, but judging the guy’s height by the stop sign on the utility pole, he looks a little short to be me.
