It’s Time to Save the World with Design Thinking
The following is a liveblog of an group discussion lead by Dwayne King on how design thinking has been and could be used to positively impact policy and social issues. The conversation took place at South by Southwest on March 14, 2010.
4:47:12 PM: RT @tracymueller: Design thinking is where the analytical meets the intuitive.
4:48:16 PM: RT @sustaining: Policy analogy prototyping : stimulus funding for pilot projects :: single-solution thinking : program reform bills
4:48:35 PM: RT @trevoreld: if your approach is trying to solve general problems out there you’ll find many that are true, but useless.
4:50:08 PM: RT @cjamesbarlow: link to the UK Design Council http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/
4:52:53 PM: Framing the healthcare issue in Oregon argument about implementation and budget, not philosophy
4:54:34 PM: RT @tracymueller: The UK Design Council brings in design groups to work on business, politics, decrease crime, etc
5:01:53 PM: Sustainable sustainability. A financial incentive is needed to maintain sustainability across complex systems .
5:15:52 PM: RT @tracymueller: To change the world may not be us solving problems, but empowering systems (e.g. Govt) to think differently and solve them.
5:18:45 PM: RT @JoeGermuska: How many “design thinkers” does it take to change a compact fluorescent light bulb?
5:18:52 PM: RT @cjamesbarlow: Awesome device from Scotland providing a feedback loop on energy and water usage http://www.ewgeco.com/
5:20:21 PM: RT @jakedoran: Try to sell less and give more, don’t giveaway, but give back content/incentives that’s valuable to the user.
5:20:47 PM: RT @cjamesbarlow: 2 examples of design programs looking at creating lasting change http://extreme.stanford.edu/ & http://d-lab.mit.edu/
5:22:24 PM: Design thinking can mean story telling, what is the narrative?
5:24:13 PM: Universities change, one funeral at a time. Ouch!
5:26:07 PM: #SXSW trash cans read “Recycling, compost, landfill” Love it.
