One Web Day

OneWebDay

I owe my livelihood to the internet, so here’s my shout out to One Web Day. I remember back in ’94 going online for the first time and being so excited about the opportunities for connection. I made my own little site while I waited for my computer to reboot, which is a lot when you are a software tester, and who knew that would be the start of something that would define my career for years to come?

What I am astounded most these days is my kid’s relationship with the web. They take it for granted as much as I do TV. For them YouTube isn’t fascinating because of the social aspect of it and how it has blossomed so quickly. To them it is just another venue for entertainment. Creating a wiki for their class is as natural as creating a posterboard report. Google has always been and they expect it to answer their every question.

The enormity of information and content online, the connections available and the expectation of this is what I am constantly impressed by. My girls don’t usually visit the sites that I make, but when they do I hope that those sites live up to their expectations.
