Shopping At Work And Not Caring Who Knows About It

It seems like I’m not alone in maintaining my personal online life a little while at work. Burst Media is reporting that workers spend 26.6% of their daily online time at work on personal business with men spending more time on personal things at work (28%) than women (24.2%). Whether the amount of time is growing or decreasing and how it compares against other countries I don’t know and would be interesting to find out.

Burst sees this as a marketing opportunity. I see it as a confirmation of the continued merging of work life and personal life. The fact that only 28.5% feel guilty about using the Internet on company time and a mere 30.5% are concerned their employer might be tracking their at work web usage would seem to bear out the idea that people feel entitled to take care of personal stuff while on the clock.
