TinyURL had an outage a couple of weeks ago, which I didn’t notice, but Steve Rubel and others did. If Twitter being down now and then bugs you then if this is the beginning of a trend for TinyURL you are going to be doing some serious moaning in the near future.

There are options (snipr.com, traceurl.com, dwarfurl.com), but TinyURL is the most popular and the one that you probably have used both to shorten urls and to access links. If it has problems you’ll have problems. Should we know better than to rely heavily on just TinyURL? Yes. Should Google or Twitter or another company come up with an alternative? Yes. But until any of that happens how about sending a little love to the resource that we’ve been using for so long?
