The iPhone’s Affect On The Mobile Web
A few articles recently point to the influence of the iPhone on the mobile web. The New York times reported the surge in traffic to Google’s mobile site from iPhones.
“Consumers are going to demand Internet browsers” as good as Apple’s, said Vic Gundotra, a Google vice president who oversees mobile products.
Better browsers will of course lead to better mobile websites and applications like Google’s Grand Prix. MediaPost is also talking about the growth of this marketplace attributing it to smartphones in general along with 3G networks and the prospects for advertising revenue.
I don’t particularly want an iPhone. I don’t want an iPod (actually happy with my Zune thanks), but if the iPhone will spur marketers and developers to develop of more and better mobile sites, then thank you Steve Jobs and those of you with iPhones please keep surfing.
