Years back, maybe 2007 or so, I’d get holiday cards from relatives with collages of the year in pictures and a 1 page year end letter describing the ups and downs of the past year for their family.

This year two Facebook applications are filling this niche, My Year in Photos and My Year in Status.  Both apps cull through your Facebook activity for the year and produce collage of the year that was in photographs or status updates respectively.  Both allow you to select templates for the layout and the Year in Photos app allows you to nix photos.  My Year in Status does not allow you to veto updates so while there are some winners in my list there are also a few retweets that I would remove if I could.

In these times of ambient awareness via social networks we seem to always know generally what our friends are up to and so I initially thought that these apps wouldn’t be so interesting. But it seems that there still is a place (as there may always be) for the end of year remembrance of times past.
