Top Twitter Causes of 2009
To follow up on the top Twitter trending topics of 2009 (which is quite a tongue twister that will get even worse next year) there’s also a list from Twibbon, the Twitter cause IDs for your avatar, of top “causes” on Twitter as measured by the most popular Twibbons.
- Breast Cancer Awareness Month – the ubiquitous pink ribbon makes every month Breast Cancer Awareness Month
- Santa Hat – not really a cause and thus my earlier quotes around the word
- #IndonesiaUnite – in response to the Jakarta Bombings in July
- Yellow Ribbon For President Cory – in memory of Philippine president Cory Aquino
- Support Royal British Legion – awareness of Armistice Day and support for the Royal British Legion that aids the families, veterans of members of Jer Majesty’s Armed Forces
- IE6 Must Die – protest against the ancient Microsoft browser IE6, the bane of web developers everywhere
- Alex’s Lemonade Stand – support in the fight against childhood cancer
- #WeLovetheNHS – defense of the British healthcare system
- World AIDS Day – awareness of the AIDS epidemic and support for the search for a cure
- CENSURANUNCAMAIS – protest against govenrment censorship of the Brazilian newspaper Estado de S. Paul
Personally I’m sad that the 350 Global Warming Twibbon didn’t crack the top 10. Maybe in 2010.
