A word about timing. All of the search engine’s ended 2009 a month early and posted their yearly top search terms at the beginning of the month. I understand the need to avoid the news cycle black hole at the end of the year, but it just feels too soon. I’m glad that Twitter held out for a couple more weeks and waited till midway through the month to release their top trends for the year. Maybe that’s why their list seems to best capture 2009′s zeitgeist.
