I swap my MP3 player about once a year. I’ve never owned an iPod, though the rest of the family does, and have cycled through about 5 different non-Apple players so far. Last year I got the first generation 30GB Zune, which has its pluses and minuses, and now I would love to try out the new 2nd generation 80GB version. The big minus is that I can’t find one.

Both the local Best Buy and Target are carrying the new flash Zunes, but the hard drive version is nowhere to be seen. Both stores are still displaying the old 30GB Zunes, which look pretty beat up after a year of being played with. Where are the new units which are actually getting some decent reviews for their design.

I know that I can get the Zune at Amazon.com or another online store, but the fact that the new Zunes aren’t in the stores yet is pretty telling. Is Microsoft not supporting the Zune? Are the big box stores giving the Zune a cold shoulder? I don’t know, but I sure would like to see one before I make my next switch. I’m headed to Mexico for the holidays and those plane trips would be a great test for a review, hint, hint.
